Welcome to the Michael Stich Foundation

In 1994, tennis pro Michael Stich founded the “Michael Stich Foundation” with the aim to support children living in Germany, infected by HIV or living with AIDS.

The support program focuses on first encounters such as, baby nutrition, summer and winter clothing, furniture and toys for children’s rooms, bicycle and helmets, membership to sporting clubs, educational excursions and many other desired activities.

The Michael Stich Foundation works in close collaboration with the German Aids Federation and The University hospitals. The foundation also financially supports doctors and nurses, social workers and therapists working with children affected or infected by HIV/AIDS.

Research shows that a lack of knowledge and information has contributed significantly and an increase in new infections has been recorded. Based on recent research and other pertinent information, the Michael Stich Foundation saw a need for further awareness and in November 2006, launched a new project, focussing at the Prevention and Education of HIV/AIDS.

The new pilot scheme started in Hamburg and targeted at school going children. The program is about providing information e.g. ways of being infected, cause of disease and social consequences of HIV/AIDS. Questions are entertained and all information supplied by medical practitioners, is based on personal experiences, one on one anonymous interviews and a global communications network of specialist.

An overwhelming response from within the educational institutions, from students to head masters to counsel, all expressed a need for more and continuous information. The Michael Stich Foundation believes that more than 20,000 young people in Hamburg alone will be reached by this pilot project. Lack of information amongst young people with respect to HIV and AIDS has lead to the project organisers now preparing to roll out in other major cities in Germany.

The Michael Stich Foundation in collaboration with German advertising agency, Jung von Matt and commercials producer Zeitsprung, produced and created a national awareness on HIV and AIDS, through advertisement and commercials. An initiative supported by many publishers, offered to print material for free. First commercial aired for free on two well known private channels in Germany. On special invitation, the campaign was exhibited twice at the fair ART COLOGNE.

Aim of the campaign is to make people talk again about HIV/ AIDS and emphasize the importance of information on HIV and AIDS, for anyone!
