Dragon Boat Cup
7th Dragon Boat Cup of the Michael Stich Foundation
The Dragon Boat Cup of the Michael Stich Foundation took place for the 9th time in a row on the “Binnenalster” in the city of Hamburg accompanied by the most beautiful weather and lots of sunshine.
The great weather conditions boosted the ambitions. Some teams even came up with new race time records – a surprise to everyone.
With the goal and desire to help children affected by HIV/AIDS a large number of foundation supporters from the worlds of business, politics and entertainment came together this friday. They fought and paddled with the goal to win the annual Dragon Boat Cup for the good cause of the Michel Stich Foundation. Each dragon boat was manned by 18 people. All united in the spirit to help while having an eventful and enjoyable day together.
The emotions were high and some teams accompanied by Michael Stich took the chance to go swimming in the Alster!
The following teams participated in the event 2011: Coca Cola, EAST, Gaastra, Möbel Schulenburg mit Alster Radio und Starcar, Körber-Stiftung, ERGO Versicherungsgruppe, Fürst Bismarck Quelle, WMD Vertrieb, J.C.M.B. Beteiligungen, Radio Hamburg, Rickmers Holding, Deutsche Leasing und Grossmann & Berger, Blair Atholl, Mercedes Benz, Hamburger Volksbank, K&H Business Partner, Garbe Group and the team of the Michael Stich Foundation with celebrity paddlers. They were supported by Patrick Bach, Andreas Brucker, Götz Elbertzhagen, Jürgen Hingsen, Luan Krasniqi, Kostja Ullmann and Sandra Völker.
The Dragon Boat Cup event combines sport and fun with the benefit of a good purpose. The huge amount of 330.000,-- Euros in donations came together. This will enable the Michael Stich Foundation continue to do its valuable work for the children in need.
The Michael Stich Foundation, a pure non-profit organization, relies entirely on donations to fund its professional and caring work for those who are less fortunate. It offers among other, medical and psychological support for HIV/AIDS affected children as well as financial aid.
“We want to see the children smile”, says initiator Michael Stich. “We sincerely hope, that many teams will register again for future Dragon Boat Cups in favour of the families in need. “
Glorious charity party
To round up the successful day, the charity party took traditionally place in the EAST Hotel + Restaurant. The winner ceremony was held with the BEAST Y BOYS. They won the Dragon Boat Cup for the third time in a row and are lucky to keep it now – a new cup will be sponsored by them for the next year. The pictures of the new prevention campagne were presented to the public this evening.
A wonderful evening get-together was once again the framework for the crowning finale. Also, new contacts were made and networks were built with other companies and individuals in a relaxed atmosphere. The guests enjoyed the evening with delicious delicacies and great music presented by Winnie Appel & Friends and DJ Petko Pantic until the early morning hours.
