AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To put a smile on the faces of HIV-infected children has been our primary goal since the Foundation was first set up. We do this by fulfilling personal little wishes for the children. It is very simple things that make a child’s eyes light up: a new school satchel, a holiday on a farm, braces for their teeth or a new pair of cool glasses, plus Christmas presents, birthday parties, language trips, extra help with schoolwork, riding lessons or music tuition.
We help the affected families, especially the children, in a very non-bureaucratic and personal manner. To achieve this we work all over Germany with institutions, such AIDS support organisations, HIV outpatient departments of university children’s hospitals, with the health authorities and also with charity organisations. This collaboration enables help to be provided in a systematic, targeted way.
We also make an important contribution by funding positions for doctors, nurses, art therapists and social education specialists at the university hospitals to ensure that the affected children are looked after and provided for in the best way possible.
The institutions make their applications for financial support in writing with no red tape or lengthy forms. If the application is approved, your donated funds are provided only after receipt and close review of the applicant’s statement of intended use.
Another integral part of the Foundation’s work is HIV and AIDS education and prevention.
There is insufficient knowledge in our society of how people can get infected by the HIV virus and about living with people affected by this disease.
We want to achieve a situation where infected people are integrated without any prejudice. These are people suffering from a disease for which there is not yet any cure. They nevertheless have the same needs as every other one of us.
In order to achieve this goal, we seek to enlighten the public.
In the 16 years of the Foundation’s work we have already had the privilege of being able to pass on over €3 million in donations to affected children.
